Plans have been finalised ahead of the launch of an ambitious project.
‘Light up Bedlington’ week, which is being organised by local charity Leading Link with support from West Bedlington Town Council, will run from Thursday, November 20, to November 27.
The aim of the week is to showcase the town and everything that it has to offer, with local people being invited to access over 50 different opportunities throughout the seven days.
Lyn Horton, manager of Leading Link, said: “At the centre of ‘Light up Bedlington’ week is simply the community - there is a fantastic community spirit that exists here and we think it is not celebrated enough.”
At the centre of ‘Light up Bedlington’ week is two pop-up shops, which will feature enterprise markets, craft workshops from local artist Niki Ackhurst, local school showcases, guidance and support from organisations such as the Blyth Resource and Initiative Centre, Business Northumberland, Dementia Friends, Wansbeck Centre for Voluntary Service and Credit Union SEN and much more.
There is also a special Bedlington Christmas Carol CD being produced by Leading Link, who are working with 20,000 Voices Community Choir and a selection of students from each of the local Bedlington schools, which will be completed and available before Christmas.
Local traders are getting involved as well, with some offering free workshops and special offers/competitions and many getting involved in the ‘Trader Trail!’ inviting young people to get out there and find out more about what Bedlington’s retailers have to offer.
The week will culminate with an array of family fun and entertainment on the Market Place on November 26, with the official lights switch on.
