Bosses at a leading supermarket chain are considering new ways to bring shoppers back into Bedlington after plans to extend their store fell through.
Staff at Tesco, in Front Street, are working with customers and local residents to look at options to make the ‘high street’ thrive again.
And to kick things off, they held a party in the store to mark the relaunch of the supermarket.
Community Champion Mikey Kilpatrick said: “Two years ago Tesco won planning permission to extend the current store in Bedlington, unfortunately for reasons out of our control the plans have been scrapped and the extension was permanently postponed.
“As a result of this we have began to slowly lose our regular customers, to combat this we are trying our best to better the store and to get more people into the town.
“I’m also planning car boot sales to help get trade back in Bedlington.”
Other plans include re-configuring the layout of the shop in line with shoppers’ requests.
