GAMEKEEPERS in Northumberland have teamed up with police to launch an operation to prevent poaching.
The neighbourhood policing team in Mopeth has launched Operation Ghillie, and has carried out patrols in rural areas to prevent and detect crime, and gather intelligence.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Sharon Wilmore-Greaves said: “With the darker nights set in and shooting season underway, historically opportunist and organised criminals can travel into the area purporting to be legal game shooting but with the intention of committing crime.
“The operation has been launched to deter suspected criminals coming to Morpeth to commit crime.
“We are identifying people suspected of being involved in such crimes and we will take action against anyone involved.”
A number of people and vehicles were stopped and searched with poaching equipment was seized from two men who were reported for poaching-related offences.
