CONSERVATIVE candidate John Collins has won the Cramlington Town Council seat left vacant by the death of Brian Pickering in January.

Coun Collins picked up 68 per cent of the vote in the Cramlington North by-election, leaving Labour trailing on 21 per cent and the Lib Dems on 11 per cent.

He said after the count: “I am thrilled and very proud to have been elected to Cramlington Town Council. First thing tomorrow morning, I will go straight to work, representing the views of my neighbours and looking after our patch.”

Coun Wayne Daley, county councillor for Cramlington North, said, “I am delighted that my fellow Cramlington residents have chosen a local man who will work hard for us on our town council.

“John is well known locally as a decent man who will fight to get the best possible deal for his neighbours.”
