A fundraising challenge involving two care homes will have a ‘mane’ theme.

Marley the pony from Mini Pony Hire will be walking from East Riding care home in Morpeth to Wansbeck carehome in West Sleekburn this weekend to raise funds for the residents.

Lisa Walker, from Mini Pony Hire, said: “We wanted to help these two care homes because they have welcomed us into their ‘family’ and allowed us to use their premises for training our ponies to work with the elderly, including practicing riding in a lift to enable us to visit residents who are unable to leave their upstairs rooms due to mobility or mental health issues.

“We retired our other pony Smurf when he became blind, but he missed being out and is now back visiting care homes and riding in lifts, bringing back memories of the pit ponies for the residents.”

Marley will complete his walk on Sunday, October 12.
