Post Office service set to return to village

A Post Office will be restored in Lynemouth several months after the previous service was closed.

The new facility, at M&I Cullen in Albion Terrace, is just 550 metres from the former premises in West Market Street in the town.

Post Office regional network manager for Scotland and Northern England, Sue Richardson, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Lynemouth and I am pleased to announce that we have found a new operator in the area that will enable us to restore a service.

“Post Office local is a new concept for delivering services from an open plan counter with products and services available alongside retail transactions during shop opening hours, allowing services to be available for longer offering greater convenience to customers.”

Opening hours at the new location will be Monday to Saturday 6.30am to 7pm, and Sunday 6.30am to 12.30pm.

Lynemouth Post Office closed in August 2012 when the subpostmaster resigned.

Ms Richardson added: “While a decision to establish a new branch in Lynemouth has already been made, we would still like the public’s views on the service on offer at the new location.”

A six-week consultation ends on May 24.
