Life’s a beach for Cramlington pupils as their outdoor learning pays off.

Beaconhill Primary School has been presented with £200 after winning Children North East’s sandcastle challenge.

The school was designated a ‘beach school’ in 2015, with pupils enjoying lessons outside the classroom every day and taking their learning to the beach.

The sandcastle contest was held in July, with almost 1,800 children from the region taking part.

Beaconhill’s winning beach hut design was made by 15 youngsters, ranging from reception to Year 6, helped by the school’s beach ranger Mrs Wharton.

Each of the pupils received a medal on the day, and now Children North East senior fundraiser Carol Taylor has presented the school with its cash prize, which will be invested in beach school activities.
