YOUNGSTERS are helping their school cut its carbon footprint and save cash by investigating its energy usage.

Year 7 students at Blyth School Community College were asked to look into electricity, gas and water use, as well as its recycling arrangements and the potential for generating wind and solar energy.

Advanced skills teacher Wendy Cooper said: “The students have really enjoyed working on this project.

“The next step will be for the students to act as energy ambassadors to promote recycling and energy-saving measures.”
