A partnership in Bedlington put road safety in the spotlight to mark the recent UN Global Road Safety Week and road safety charity Brake’s Beep Beep! Day.

Activities were organised by St Bede’s RCVA Primary School, St Benet Biscop Catholic Academy, Meadowdale Academy and West End First School, with support from other members of the strategy group – Northumberland County Council, Leading Link, Northumbria Police and local residents.

Leading Link put together a short film highlighting key issues and the schools have been raising awareness in the community. The programme at West End First School included road safety walks and a workshop run by police officers for pupils in Year 4.

Headteacher Jane Bushell said: “The children were very excited to take part in the activities. They are very knowledgeable about the range of important road safety issues.”
