Generous Blyth pupils are making a happier Christmas for more than 200 children across the world.

Youngsters at Bede Academy North have donated 123 shoeboxes packed with toys, classroom equipment, hats, gloves and toiletries for needy children in Eastern Europe and Asia.

And younger pupils at the academy’s south site have collected a further 100 boxes.

The gifts will be sent on by Blythswood Care, which aims to deliver its two millionth shoebox in its 50th anniversary year.

Bede Academy teacher Graeme Murray said: “The appeal is always very well supported by our students and their generous families.”
