I AM keen to get in touch with anyone who knew and remembers Jimmy Adamson in the days when he lived in Ashington. It may be possible that a few people can still recollect him.
I am in the early planning stages of a book about his early days and his football life.
His greatest years were at Burnley Football Club before he went to Sunderland and then Leeds United.
He had the chance to be England manager in 1962 but turned it down.
He lived in Beatrice Street, went to Hirst Primary School, worked at the mines in his early teens and played for East Chevington Juniors.
I am keen to hear from anyone who was familiar with Ashington in the 1930s and 1940s.
Anyone who is able to help can contact me on (0113) 255 5350 or write to Dave Thomas, 12 Moorland View, Rodley, Leeds, LS13 1PU Yorkshire.
I would be delighted to hear from someone with information and if I make a visit to the north east later in the year it would be good to meet up.
If readers would prefer to contact someone more local then please contact Alan Parker, at 2 Houndslow Drive, Ashington NE63 8LZ, telephone (01670) 819459.
