A record-breaking 30,000-plus new placements were pledged nationwide, including hundreds in the north east, during this year’s National Apprenticeship Week, held last month.
The total is 7,000 more than in 2015.
Skills minister Nick Boles said: “Apprenticeships offer working people the jobs and training they need to build a great career.”
“An apprenticeship really can take you anywhere.
“Employers have pledged more than 30,000 new apprenticeships. That means over 30,000 more life-changing opportunities for working people.”
