RESIDENTS in Ashington are being urged to lock their doors and windows following a number of house burglaries.
Police say thieves have been gaining access because doors and windows have been left unlocked.
A man has been charged in connection with a burglary at a house in Milburn Road.
DCI Peter Reeve, from Northumberland area command, said: “We need residents to take steps to help us stop burglars and opportunist thieves – those who scour streets and neighbourhoods looking for doors and windows that have been left unlocked or open.
“They see these type of situations as easy pickings and the chance to commit a quick and easy crime.
“They can be in and out of your house in minutes.
“If you leave the house then lock your doors and windows, and even if you are in the house get into the routine of locking windows and doors and help us to stop thieves in the area.”
Anyone with any information into a house burglary or any other crime in the area is asked to contact police on 03456 043043 ext 69191 Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
