A disability inclusion officer who works in south east Northumberland has been nominated for a top sporting award.

Ronnie Scheu, who works for Active Northumberland, has been nominated for the North East Disability Sports Awards which is handed out to celebrate the talent and success enjoyed by north east sportsmen and women.

Ronnie, who is based at Blyth, has been nominated for one of these prestigious awards for his work managing the Ability 2 Play disability leisure programme, which accommodates all types of disabilities and ages.

Ronnie said: “I am one of the lucky few who come to work each day and get the chance to make a difference to the lives of so many who engage in the Ability 2 Play programme.

“Having the chance to give something back to inspiring young people who have been through so many different hardships is very humbling.

“Although it is my name on the nomination, Ability 2 Play wouldn’t be what it is today without the support of a fantastic team at GetActiveSE, Active Northumberland, Northumberland County Council and a host of partner organisations that all contribute greatly to its success.”

The awards will be presented at an evening planned for Wednesday, February 18, from 6pm until 10pm at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland.
