Santa to switch on village’s tree lights

A special guest will be helping to switch on the Christmas lights in Newbiggin.

Santa Claus will be joined by Koast Radio presenters arriving at his Grotto opposite the bandstand on Friday, November 28, from 5pm.

The Salvation Army band and NCEA Grace Darling School will perform music and carols.

Anyone who comes dressed as a snowman will be entered into a free prize draw with the winner receiving a chocolate hamper from the Snow Queen.

Clare Marson, chair of the Newbiggin Traders Association, said: “We are delighted that Santa will take time out of his busy schedule to come to be our guest. He has kindly agreed to switch our Christmas tree lights on at 6.30pm so we are all very excited.

“When he visits us in his grotto he will be available to spend time with our boys and girls and has promised to give each child a gift. So we would like to invite parents to bring along their children for this special event.

“We think it is important for our community to have a Christmas tree as a focal point at this time of the year and the quay wall with its traditional bandstand is the ideal location.”
