The start of a new school term has also marked the start of a new era for staff and pupils.
Choppington First School has become a primary school as of this September, extending the age range by two years.
Head teacher Hilda Blythe said: “Last year, the governors of Choppington First School decided that it was in the best interests of the children within our locality to change from a first school to a primary.
“A consultation process took place and there was overwhelming support for the idea.
“On the first day back, we chose the oldest and youngest child in the school to officially cut the ribbon, and declare Choppington Primary School open. Our new Year 5 are looking forward to the challenges of this year.”
The school is holding an open afternoon on Wednesday, September 24, from 1pm to 2.30pm, for people to come and have a look around the school.
