Scooter driver hit by object through off bridge

Police are warning people of the dangers of throwing objects from bridges after a scooter was damaged in East Sleekburn.

On Tuesday, June 30, a 25-year-old was travelling on the A189 Spine Road, passing under the Cambois sliproad flyover bridge, when an object was dropped from the bridge onto him.

It hit the scooter and forced the rider to emergency stop in the road.

Luckily he wasn’t injured and it didn’t cause a collision however, the bike was damaged and the driver left very shaken.

The scooter rider saw two youths run away from the scene and enquiries are ongoing into the incident.

Police are warning people about the dangers of these type of incidents.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Mick Kelliher said: “Dropping an object from a bridge into a busy main road is incredibly wreckless, dangerous and plain stupid. The consequences of this incident could have been far worse and could have cost lives.

“Whoever has done this has committed a criminal offence and if police identify who is responsible then they face being arrested, going to court and potentially a prison sentence.”
