A Blyth bookmakers has been raided by a knife-wielding robber for a second time in 24 hours.

Police believe the two robberies at Chisholm Bookmakers are linked and are appealing for witnesses to either attack.

At around 7.30pm yesterday (Saturday, January 31), a man, armed with a knife, went into the bookies in Elliot Street and stole cash. The previous night, at just after 11pm, the bookmakers was robbed in similar circumstances.

No one was injured in either raid but the member of staff was left shaken. A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is in police custody.

Det Insp Helen Anderson said: “Inquiries are being carried out into both robberies and we are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to come forward. “Extra patrols are being carried out in Blyth to offer reassurance to the local community and we are offering support to the bookmakers.”
