A COUPLE have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

Jim and Sheila Tyrie, of the Aged Miner’s Cottages in New Hartley, were married at St Silas Church, Byker Bank, Newcastle in 1951.

Jim, 88, and Sheila, 81, were recently joined by family and friends for a celebration at their home to mark the anniversary, where they were presented with a bouquet of flowers from Seaton Valley Council chairman Bob Watson, pictured.

Sheila said: “The secret to our long and happy marriage is patience on both sides.”
