A one-woman show is being brought to Blyth this weekend.

Professional actress Shelley O’Brien is bringing her moving one-woman show She Wins All the Races to the Phoenix Studio Theatre on Sunday at 7.30pm.

Shelley, who grew up in the region, is the founder of Mad Alice Theatre Company.

The play is set in the 1970s and tells the story of an intelligent, happy little girl who loves life, her two brothers, and stealing the priest’s biscuits with her best friend Angela.

But her brothers are not walking properly and her world is blown apart by her discovery that her brothers will not live past their 16th birthdays.

It is based on Shelley’s true story of growing up with both her brothers born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

The production is touring to regional theatres, around the UK, plus secondary schools and community venues.

Shelley said: “It is a play about how we deal with the most tragic of circumstances and come through the other end triumphantly.”

Tickets are £8. Available from (01670) 367228 or www.thephoenixtheatre.org.uk

The show is supported by Northumberland County Council.
