SLIMMERS have been shedding pounds and helping causes close to their hearts.
June Murphy and Laura McDonald-Wilson, of Bedlington, both lost 1.5 stone in 12 weeks to raise £200 each for places that inspire them.
For June, 30, it was the Pals palliative care centre at Ashington, which she attends for help coping with MS.
For Laura it was the Marie Curie charity, which nursed her grandfather when he had cancer.
Not only did they succeed in the Slimming World challenge, they have changed their lives since joining the group, says consultant Shirley Knox.
“Supporting a charity encourages people.
“When they have set themselves a goal it does help them focus just a little bit better. It shows their commitment to themselves as well.
“When these two first came into the group they were very shy and it’s turned everything around for them. It’s lovely to see that happen.”
In the 12-week campaign the 50 Bedlington members lost 49st and 75 at Choppington lost 50st.
