A special Christmas lights switch-on celebration will take place next week in south east Northumberland.
The celebration, which is being run by local charity Leading Link and supported by West Bedlington Town Council, will take place on Thursday, December 5, from 4.30pm to 7.30pm in the Market Place.
The night will feature an entertainment stage packed with the best of local talent in the area, an enterprise market of local businesses and schools, arts and crafts activities, fun fair rides, a hog roast, a chance to visit Santa’s grotto and much more.
There will also be the Christmas lights switch-on, which this year will be the people’s choice.
Since October, Leading Link has been running an online poll encouraging the residents of Bedlington to nominate their ‘community champion’ to switch on the lights.
The final six nominees are dance teacher Barbara Hunter, local singer Chloe Fennell, two-year-old Bedlington-born Faye Heatley, expert fundraiser Giles Evans, the inspirational Holly Jones and Bedlington through-and-through Malcolm Robinson.
Leading Link assistant manager Jonny Hall said: “We wanted to make Bedlington’s Christmas a real community celebration, and we have been delighted with the support that we have received from local businesses, schools and the council as well.
“All of our nominees are worthy winners and we will be inviting them all onto the stage on the night to receive recognition for their contribution to the Bedlington community.”
You can still vote for your favourite online at www.leadinglink.co.uk/xmas or by calling (01670) 820088, although voting closes at 7pm on Monday.
