VICTIMS of crime are being asked to attend an event to see if they can reclaim their stolen possessions.
Police in Ashington have seized a number of items from raids and searches carried out in the area over recent months and are inviting anyone who has had property stolen to come along.
The property will be displayed between noon and 9pm on Monday, March 28, at the YMCA centre in North View in Ashington.
The public can attend on the day, take a look at the items and speak to officers about claiming anything that might be theirs.
Detective Sergeant Jacqui Croskery from Ashington CID said: “In the last couple of months we’ve carried out a number of search warrants against those who we know are involved in committing burglaries and thefts in the area.
“We’ve seized a considerable amount of property and want to offer the public the chance to get it back.
“During a search we seize any property that we believe has been stolen and it’s up for the accused to prove it’s theirs.
“If they don’t then the chances are it’s been stolen and belongs to the victim of a crime.
“We do everything we can to reunite the rightful owners with their property and I’d urge anyone in Ashington who has been the victim of a theft or a burglary in the last few months to come along to the event and see if their belongings are there.”
Items seized during searches and that will be on show on the day include – TVs, scooters, fishing equipment, DVD players, Sky boxes and equipment, cutlery and household items, generators, tools, printers, golf clubs, cameras, sat nav systems, compressors, trolley jacks, jewellery and lots more.
