Store chips in with pet tag offer

Dog tags with a difference are being offered at a Cramlington pet store.

Pets At Home, in Westmoorland Retail Park, is offering a discounted microchipping service for dogs and cats next week.

Microchipping is a simple, relatively painless and essential procedure for ensuring the welfare of your pet.

From April next year all dogs will have to be microchipped by law by the time they are eight weeks old.

The chip, containing contact information about the pet’s owner, is roughly the size of a grain of rice and fits under the skin.

It is the most effective way of increasing the chances of a missing pet being reunited with its owner should it be found.

When a chip is implanted at Pets At Home each pet is given a unique code number, which is stored with the owner’s details on the UK’s largest registration database Petlog.

Cramlington store manager Colin Dale said: “As the government deadlines approach, we want to highlight the benefits of microchipping to help owners avoid the heartache of losing a pet.

“Microchipping is a simple, relatively painless and essential procedure for ensuring the welfare of your pet.”

The microchipping event takes place at the store on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27.

Owners can pop in with their pets at any time.

The service costs £10 for the weekend, down from the usual price of £15.
