STUDENTS in Ashington have put two and two together to create the perfect party.

Year 9 pupils at Ashington Sports College used their mathematical skills to organise an end-of-term party at Ashington High School.

During their transition fortnight, the students designed questionnaires to find out what would make the perfect party and worked out the costing of the menu and entertainment.

Andrew Bolton, the school’s head of maths, said: “Functionality is becoming a significant part of the maths syllabus, and it is important for students to see how it can be used in everyday life.”
