Young fighters from the county did their country proud with success at an international event.

Members of East Meets West Black Belt Academy from Bedlington Station, have just returned from competing in the World Kickboxing Championships in Portugal where they represented England as part of the WKC national team.

Senior instructor Colin Beddow said: “I want to express my thanks to the whole of Bedlington’s community, local people, shopkeepers and the parish council, Northumberland scouts as well as the parents and friends of our academy.

“This has been a monumental event in my students’ life an experience that they will never forget, these young people were a credit to the whole of the north east.

“It’s been overwhelming just how much support we have had. I am so humbled at how much kindness and generosity people have shown.

“It just goes to show that with the correct amount of preparation anything is possible.”
