Suspect package found in Northumberland street

A Northumberland road has been cordoned off after a suspect package was found.

At 6.30pm this evening (Tuesday, July 13) police were informed a suspect package had been found near Cowpen Road in Blyth.

Officers are currently at the scene to carry out enquiries. At the current time it is not known what the package is and whether it poses cause for concern.

A cordon is currently in place around the area, including Blyth Service Station, as a precuation while enquiries are carried out.

A section of Cowpen Road is closed.

Extra officers are in the area to deal with the incident and ensure any disruption to the community is kept to a minimum.
