Taxi driver assaulted in Bedlington

Police are appealing for information after a taxi driver was assaulted and subjected to racist comments in Bedlington.

The incident took place at about 1am on Sunday, April 17, at the BP garage in Station Road.

The taxi driver had picked up a man and a woman from the Bigg Market area of Newcastle and took them to Bedlington.

He stopped the car at the BP garage for the couple to use the cash point. But at this location, the man pushed the taxi driver before making a number of racist comments aimed towards him.

The couple then walked off towards Waverley Court.
