As the nation marks Dementia Awareness Week, the teams at Specsavers stores in Northumberland are supporting the Alzheimer’s Society initiative Dementia Friends.

Employees nationwide, including at the Ashington, Blyth and Cramlington branches, are completing a dementia awareness programme.

Those achieving the first level of accreditation this week will become recognised as Dementia Friends, with a badge to wear on their uniforms to indicate their increased level of dementia awareness to their customers.

John Ludlow, store director of Specsavers in Blyth, said: “It has really opened my eyes to how at Specsavers, when performing our daily duties, we can all take a little time to support and care.”
