Teenager trapped in mud

EMERGENCY services were called to the Port of Blyth on Thursday, August 31, amidst reports that a teenager was stuck in mud.

Blyth RNLI lifeboat Alan and Amy as well as police attended the scene near the old ferry landing, where the teenager had become trapped while digging for worms on the river bed.

By the time the lifeboat arrived shortly after 11am the teenager had been freed and was being comforted by friends.

Lifeboat operations manager John Scott said: “The teenager was fortunate to have managed to get free of the soft mud because the rising tide may have resulted in the mud getting softer and he could have been trapped by sinking further in to the mud.”
