THREE teenagers have been arrested in Blyth after an empty school building was practically burned to the ground.

Firefighters were still at the site of the former Wensleydale Middle School in Blyth on Wednesday morning almost 12 hours after the fire was reported.

Two 17-year-olds and one 18-year-old were arrested on suspicion of arson and the police have said they are not ruling out a fire at the former Newsham Primary School in the town on Monday night being linked.

Both schools are no longer in use and have been empty for some time.

The fire service had six pumps and an aerial platform at the scene of the Wensleydale school blaze on Tuesday night, and as multiple parts of the building re-ignited firefighters worked through the early hours of Wednesday morning to control the blaze.
