Entertainment for all ages is being lined up as an annual fair day returns to Ashington this weekend.
This Sunday the town will come alive with activities for all tastes and ages including live music, market stalls, fairground rides and face painting.
Street entertainment will include stilt walkers, a treasure hunt for young people and a ‘Beach Party’.
One of the musical performances will be by local band Giraffe House before they head off to Prague to play in front of a 10,000 strong festival crowd in August.
The band, who are part of the YMCA Music Studios Project, have just returned from playing a festival in the midlands and are looking forward to the opportunity of performing in their hometown.
Ashington Fair Day has been brought together by community groups and organisations working alongside Ashington Town Council.
Ashington town clerk, Mike Slaughter, said: “The enthusiasm of the working group is greatly encouraging and they have all worked to make Ashington Fair Day bigger and better – all we hope for is a fine day.”
A touch of the Caribbean, courtesy of Bad Apples North East, will also take place as Wansbeck Square hosts its own ‘Beach Party’.
Visitors will be able to relax on the beach under the shade of a palm tree and enjoy non-alcoholic cocktails, and have a go at riding the waves on the ‘Surf-Sim’.
The day will run from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
