Silx Teen Bar in Blyth and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are working together to help a key initiative.

A training course has been established where Silx workers, volunteers and young people can become Ageing Well Allies – people of all ages who will work with, volunteer for, or support senior citizens to live well in their local community.

The young Allies will also be able to signpost elderly people and their families and carers to appropriate services where they can get more in-depth advice and information and it is hoped that the skills gained will equip them with the tools to progress into a health and social care career.

Senior youth worker Jackie Long said: “We have worked in partnership with Northumbria Healthcare and Emma Shields for many years and this initiative enables us to provide training for our young people that will give them new skills and even help them gain employment in the future.”
