A SMALL boat in difficulties off the coast at Blyth was escorted to safety by the town’s RNLI lifeboat after being spotted by a walker on the beach.

The lifeboat Jennie B was launched last Thursday to assist the two crew members after a member of the public called coastguard to report that they were in trouble.

The lifeboat reached the scene, between the West Pier and South Beach, eight minutes later and assessed the condition of the craft before escorting it back to the shore.

Lifeboat operations manager John Scott said: “A walker was observant and raised the alarm, and it was very good to note the two persons with the small boat had safety equipment such as a radio and lifejackets.”
