A development trust is calling on members of the public to help make a difference to their town.
Ashington Community Development Trust is working with a group of volunteers, The Friends of Central Arcade, to bring the former Co-op department store in Woodhorn Road into community use as an arts and culture centre.
The trust is looking to turn the first and second floors of the Central Arcade into a venue for community use, but the building is in private ownership and they are looking for help in raising funds to rent the space.
Secretary of the Friends, Richard Farrer, said: “If everyone in Ashington were to come forward and pledge just £1 a year, that would pay the rent.”
Ashington Community Development Trust manager, Janet Cresswell, added: “With this level of support from the community, other funds can be raised from organisations to make something really special happen.”
