Firefighters are preparing to turn the heat up for a family fun day and drill competition.
Staff from the Community Safety Academy at Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service will run a family fun day and drill competition on Saturday at West Hartford Community Fire Station near Cramlington.
A packed programme of activities is planned including Young Firefighters’ Association demonstrations, a firefighter challenge for younger children as well as inflatables and swings, a driver simulator challenge for young people, demonstrations of the latest fire service operational equipment, a display by West Hartford Boxing Club, a tombola and plenty of stalls providing food and drink will be available throughout the event.
During the day, The Young Firefighters’ Drill Competition will entertain the crowds. Young firefighters from branches across the county will compete in teams to test their firefighting skills as well as physical and mental agility.
Alex Bennett, chief fire officer for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We’re pleased to be able to give the young firefighters a platform to demonstrate their skills and show visitors of all ages what they learn during their training each week.
“As the day takes place at Northumberland’s fire service headquarters, it’s also a fantastic opportunity for members of the public to take a look at this state-of-the-art community fire station and support a worthy cause.”
All proceeds from the day, which runs from from 10.30am to 4pm will go to the Firefighters’ Charity.
