Volunteers needed so scheme can grow

GREEN-fingered volunteers are needed to help a Community Space Challenge programme in Ashington.

The scheme works with young people aged between eight and 18 who have been identified as being at risk of offending.

The programme gives the young people an opportunity to develop community outside spaces within their community, such as bulb planting, hanging baskets, litter picks and the development of an allotment.

As part of the programme, officials are looking at starting a garden programme to teach young people simple garden skills and techniques.

The group meet once a week at Seaton Hirst Allotments, for around an hour.

They are looking for any volunteers with gardening knowledge to help run the group.
