Youngsters are wheelie happy after taking delivery of a new mini bus for their school.

The Dales, in Cowpen Road, Blyth, has taken delivery of a new Variety Club Sunshine Coach, replacing their old bus.

And they were helped on their way by Leeds Building Society, with staff from the local branch raising the majority of the £25,000 needed to buy the bus.

The school, which has 78 children, helps youngsters with special educational needs and disabilities.

Headteacher Hugh Steele said: “We are extremely grateful to all those who have helped secure the bus for us.

“We depended on the generosity of benefactors such as Variety Club and The Leeds Building Society. They have raised funds to allow used to replace our old bus with a sparkling new one, at a reduced cost to school.

“Much of the work we do necessitates the children are involved in experiential learning. This requires us to create learning programmes which involve taking children to other locations where they can, for example, benefit from sensory experiences.

“It is therefore essential that we have safe and efficient modes of transport.”
