Where were jobs between 1997-2010?

In his contribution to your edition dated October 24, our MP asks, in relation to government plans to enquire those claiming unemployment benefit to carry out meaningful work, “But where will the jobs come from?”.

He then goes on to say “The next Labour government will ensure there is a job for every adult who is long-term unemployed ...”.

Ensuring the availability of money to fund this non-job creation scheme is clearly based on further taxing the ten per cent of tax-payers who already provide approximately 60 per cent of all tax revenues and by whom we here in the north east are heavily subsidised.

But I am left wondering why his party did not provide such jobs for all who were long-term unemployed during the years 1997-2010?
