I WRITE with reference to the bench portraits in Blyth park.
It is claimed, in the article, that residents of Blyth were asked to nominate the townsfolk past and present they would like to see immortalised in steel.
Who exactly was asked? I certainly wasn’t and the hundreds of people I have asked say they were not asked either, nor do they know anyone who was actually asked.
And why is David Rathband among the portraits? Why is he among those being immortalised?
Personally I cannot see why he is among them, as many others have also said.
Perhaps, in future it could be shown residents actually being asked.
