Woman arrested after dog attacks children

A woman has been arrested after a dog attacked children in a play park.

The 37-year-old was arrested today (Thursday) on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control.

The animal is believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier type dog and remains in secure police kennels.

Eleven children were taken to hospital for treatment to puncture wounds after being attacked by the dog in Burns Avenue, Blyth, at 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Three of the children were kept in hospital overnight for treatment.

Extra officers are in the area speaking with people and offering reassurance.
