Would ewe believe the new gardener

A crack team of grass cutters are aiming to prove there is nothing sheepish about their new job in Morpeth.

Northumberland County Council has brought in 12 Shetland breed sheep to graze on the historic 11th century Ha’ Hill in Carlisle Park.

The sheep will keep the area in good natural condition and sustainably manage the hill back to a more species rich grassland by controlling the brambles, rosebay, and raspberries.

Andy Rutherford, head of highways and neighbourhood services, said: “Bringing the sheep to the park is restoring a traditional and sustainable land management technique when livestock were grazing around the area.”
