North east X-Factor finalist Lola Saunders will be the special guest at a Christmas light switch on in south east Northumberland.
Ashington’s Christmas lights will be switched on on Thursday, November 27, from 4pm to 6.30pm.
And South Shields’ Lola Saunders will be the guest of honour.
The night will be presented by kelly Hinch, and there will be children’s rides, costumed characters, mini pony rides, face painting and school and community choirs.
Station Road will be pedestrianised for rides and activities, and Station bridge will be used for the stage and performances.
Karen Donaldson, manager for Ashington Town Team, one of the event organisers, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Lola will be coming along to our lights switch-on event this year.
“She performed really well in the X Factor live shows and was a credit to the region and we hope she will be a popular choice to kick-off the Christmas festivities.
“Lola will definitely get a warm Ashington welcome.”
This follows on from the town’s first ‘celebrity switch-on’ with Tim Healy, last year, which attracted thousands of spectators and showed organisers, Ashington Town Council and Ashington Town Team, that there is an appetite to hold events and animate the town.
Andy McGregor, from the Town Team, said: “There is a real feeling of change in the air for Ashington Town Centre, following back-to-back news stories about the £74m investment programme and potential relocation of county hall.
“The Christmas lights switch-Oo is all about celebrating Ashington and looking ahead to a bright future and we hope as many local people as possible come along and have fun.”
