YOUNG firefighters have been putting their skills to the test in a drill competition.
Scores of spectators turned out to watch seven teams from across the county take part in the fourth annual Young Firefighters’ Association contest at Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service’s headquarters at West Hartford.
The event is held to showcase the training that the association’s cadets put in throughout the year.
Teams from Alnwick, Amble, Berwick, Hexham, Pegswood, West Hartford and Wooler took part.
Pegswood’s young firefighters scored a hat-trick by winning ladder drill and knots and lines contests, as well as a quiz.
The county’s chief fire officer, Alex Bennett, said: “This event is a great way for association members to practise the skills that they have mastered, and it’s also an opportunity for young people from groups across the county to meet fellow members and find out more about the fire service.”
