Schoolchildren from Ashington have been showing off their work during a presentation ceremony at their school.

The youngsters from Hirst Park Middle School have taken part in a seven-week PEER kids programme hosted by Bernicia.

The PEER programme (Positive, Emotions, Educating, Respect) is designed to show the pupils how to look after their neighbourhood, to respect other people and not to cause a nuisance, through group work and lessons, playing games, designing posters, and performing role plays.

Sharon Firmin from Bernicia said: “We have had a lot of fun with this group of children, who have really embraced the experience.

“Class 5PT have been the most enthusiastic group of children to take part in the programme with us so far – it just goes to show that we can all make a difference to our neighbourhood and children care about where they live.”
