BELL-RINGING: Thanks for long service

editorial image

Mr Bill Hedley, during his career as a maths teacher at Cramlington High School, as a hobby taught bell-ringing.

He is now retiring as tower captain at St Nicholas Village Church, Cramlington, after 62 years of bell-ringing.

His hobby began at All Saints Church, Gosforth, followed by 47 years at Cramlington.

During this time he took groups of bell-ringers on trips to other churches to ring their bells. He taught many, young and old.

A presentation was made to him on Sunday, March 12 in appreciation by his team of bell-ringers at St Nicholas’ and a quarter peal was rung as a thank you for his 47 years of service to the town.

He is succeeded by Alyson Kerr as tower captain. She is a bell-ringer at the cathedral.

If anyone would like to learn the art of bell-ringing they would be most welcome at St Nicholas’ on Fridays, at 7pm.

They do not have to be a church member, but over 12 years of age.
