ON BEHALF of Cowpen Quay Community Association, who run the Buffalo Community Centre, I would like to give a big thank you to Coun Vince Coils for his hard work and dedication to the support he is giving the centre, which is based in the Croft Ward of Blyth.
Just recently the Buffalo Centre went head to head in the finals of the Lottery Peoples Millions, during that time Coun Coils worked with staff and volunteers at the centre to try and help them win £50,000 to further refurbish some old stables at the back of the centre to create more valuable community space for local groups to use.
Unfortunately we didn’t win the £50,000 and lost out to a worthwhile homeless ladies project based in Newcastle.
But since the TV appearance Coun Coils has been trying to drum up support for the £50,000 quest to enable this further refurbishment to go ahead.
The old stables are at the back of the centre, which was formally an old coaching inn.
Eileen Cartie, manager of the project, and all of the centre members have worked tirelessly to try and get the project off the ground and have really appreciated all the councillor’s support.
The stables, which are currently used as a workshop, would benefit from a makeover so we can let some of our projects for young people to use and have their own space.
The Buffalo Centre, which is the hub of the community, offers a host of activities for all people to include toddler group, youth projects, junior wardens, children’s dance, over 50s salsacise, a craft club, and IT classes two art groups, job search, beetle drive, pie and pea suppers, plus many more and we are always open to new ideas.
Anyone wishing to join any of our activities or set up a new group please contact Eileen Cartie at the Buffalo Centre on (01670) 363858.
