EUROPE: Fear of what could come

During Henry VIII’s reign, the preamble to legal acts stated that ‘This is an act of a free and sovereign country subject to no other laws than its own’.

While this was directed at interference from the Pope, who is interfering now?

I suggest that the European Union could, in a few years, abolish national elections.

And if you think I am a tad foolish, consider that it has not balanced its books for decades, has three unelected presidents, and Ireland, Portugal, Denmark and Greece were told to re-run referendums.

I apologise to everyone for voting to stay in 40 years ago as I foolishly believed that it was only a trading organisation.

Notice I said “stay in” as we were never asked about joining. That act of giving up sovereignty was the responsibility of the Conservative Ted Heath.
