The Co-op will switch to 100 per cent British bacon and lamb in all of its own brand products.

It already has an impressive record of backing British farming, and I would like to commend it for taking this one step further.

This is a move that will be appreciated by existing customers, and I have no doubt that it will attract new customers.

British farming has faced many challenges in recent years and support from the Co-op and restaurants like McDonalds play a key role in supporting tens of thousands of farms across the UK.

I hope that more companies will follow in the Co-op’s very impressive footsteps.
