ROUNDABOUT: Traffic lights are better

Recent correspondents on the subject of the new roundabout in Laverock Hall Road seem, to me, to be missing the point.

A roundabout should not have been installed at that location.

Within a mile or so to the east of the new roundabout are two junctions, by means of which traffic enters and leaves South Beach Estate from South Beach Road, which are adequately controlled by traffic sensitive traffic lights.

The application of simple logic would have resulted in the installation of such lights at the junction in Laverock Hall Road, and included could have been a push-button system for pedestrians and cyclists who, under the new arrangement, continue to take their lives in their hands when crossing the road at that point.
